I took all of my gen ed classes at the USD Community Center because I did not know what I wanted to go for at the time. I took two types that tie into my degree of choice. I took psychology, which discussed how colors make people feel and elicit certain emotions. Blue, for example, is typically a representation of being sad, while red is usually used to show anger. My professor talked and used examples of advertisements. She explained how critical color theory is in marketing and graphic design jobs. I found that fascinating, and now, being here at Southeast Tech, I can confirm that color plays an important role when making ads. I also took an art history class. This class was a lot to remember; however, I enjoyed it. I now know more about famous artists that I had never heard of. I also now more clearly understand the many different types of art instead of just being lumped together like we tend to do. This is helpful in my design courses because I can now more easily identify the style of a design. I am ashamed to say I only learned who Jackson Pollock is through this class I took. I am glad I took it and have become more educated.
